Nav on the fritz? Get back to the basics with STS!
There’s not much worse than having your Kenworth or Peterbilt factory navigation system crash and burn but there’s good news, STS is here to help. Most of the time replacing the factory installed SmartNav or NavPlus gen-1 system with the new gen-2 is the way to go but if all you really need is a functional stereo then bypassing becomes a great option. The big question is how to connect all that wiring to a new heavy duty or aftermarket stereo.
It would be nice if you could simply remove the factory equipment and plug in a new stereo, but nine times out of ten it’s not that easy.
If you have any year Peterbrilt 567 or 579, or a Kenworth T170, T270, T370, T440, T470, T660, T700, T800, W900 (any year), or a T680, T880 (2014 or older) with IP harness P922 you can install any of our Delphi or Aptiv stereos without modifying your truck and without additional wiring. To do this you’ll first need a new stereo for your semi and then follow this 5-step guide.
- Disconnect existing head unit adapter harness from IP harness and remove.
- Disconnect truck harness J1939 data link breakout connectors from adapter and reconnect to each other.
- IF the truck is equipped with premium audio Locate small black connector in adapter harness labeled “P102 AMP SIGNAL” and disconnect from truck IP harness connector labeled “J01H AMP SIGNAL.” Locate loose small black connector on backside of ISO radio connector labeled “P01D AMP SIGNAL” and connect to “J01H AMP SIGNAL.” THE AMPLIFIER WILL NOT FUNCTION IF THIS CIRCUIT IS NOT COMPLETED. Locate small black connector in adapter harness labeled “J101 AMP SENSE” and disconnect from the truck IP harness. Connect truck “AMP SENSE” to PP207130 jumper (sold separately). The yellow end of this harness will get connected to the radio.
- IF installing a Bluetooth radio, install PP604240 microphone (sold separately) on A-Pillar as shown on next page and route the blue connector to the radio area.
- Connect black 16-position ISO-DIN radio connector (J021) from IP harness directly into radio and you’re done.
For Peterbilt and Kenworth that do not fall into the above listed group you will need a bypass harness kit.
